“Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.”
— Revelation 14:13 (KJV 1611)
Devotion:
To the world, death often seems like the end — a moment filled with fear, sorrow, and loss. But for the believer, death is not a curse; it is a blessed transition. Those who die in the Lord do not vanish into darkness but enter eternal rest, peace, and joy in the presence of their Saviour.
Their labours, sacrifices, prayers, and quiet acts of faith do not die with them — their works follow them. Every tear they cried, every burden they carried for Christ’s sake, every act of love and obedience — they are remembered in heaven.
The “blessed death” is not about how one dies but who they die in. To die in Christ is to fall asleep in peace and awaken in glory.
Reflection:
Are you living in a way that prepares you to die “in the Lord”? Are your works being sown in faith that they may follow you into eternity?
Prayer:
In the name of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, Amen.
Lord, help me to live each day with eternity in mind. Let my life be found in You, so that when my time comes, I may be counted among the blessed who die in the Lord. May my works, done in faith and love, follow me as a testimony of a life surrendered to You.
In Jesus Christ’s name I pray. Amen.
